Goodreads asked E.M. Spencer: How do you deal with writer’s block? The dreaded writer’s block usually happens because I’m tired or have too much on my mind but sometimes it happens and for reasons unknown. What to do? • Get some rest. • Step outside for some fresh air. • Get moving. Take a walk, run on the treadmill, do some jumping jacks – just get the blood flowing. • Try to pinpoint why you are stuck. Do you need to get your story from one point to another and aren’t sure how to get there? Has your plot gone off track? • Move on to another area of your story, switch to research or step away from the whole thing for a little while. Whether your blockage is due to lack of words or lack of motivation, sometimes you just need to plow through and get something down in order to get you over the hump. You can always return to that section and rework it later. Goodreads asked E.M. Spencer: How do you get inspired to write? Inspiration comes in different forms. We just have to watch for it. By this I mean there are all kinds of places to find inspirations. I find it by reading blogs or checking out websites of experienced authors, editors, publisher, and others in the writing community. I also find it in every day life through reading, listening to music, art, observing people, travelling, journalling, and just being quiet with nature.
