As a writer, having a portable office allows me to pick up my work and take it with me, whether travelling or just getting outdoors to enjoy the fresh scents and soothing sounds of nature.
There are very few tools that a writer needs and if you’re looking to really simplify, then the good old notebook and pen can be carried anywhere. However, with the luxury of the internet, you have an incredible amount of research and reference material all at your fingertips - so pack up your laptop and a few select items and get outdoors.
If you really want to get high tech, hop down to your nearest computer store and take your pick of the numerous gadgets available, including portable chargers, printers, and a Mi-Fi. Bring this handy gadget almost anywhere and you have an instant hotspot.
A smart phone lets you record ideas verbally or type notes, snap a picture, or even access the internet. It can be easily carried in your pocket or backpack for biking or hiking.
I like to keep a lawn chair and small folding table handy in my vehicle as well as tote with an extension cord and multiple outlet surge protector. It all came in very handy last summer when I pulled into a quiet campground with power outlets and was enjoying myself so much, I set up a foamie and pillow and spent the night.
So whether you’re in the back yard or travelling across the miles, I hope you’ll find some of these ideas useful, pack up your portable office and head outside.
