Just came in from this morning’s Aquafit class and figured I’d get my thoughts out about exercise before heading outside to enjoy the sunshine on my day off. Exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle and, if I want to see weight loss and muscle building results, I knew I’d have to kick it up a notch. However, I needed to find the right work out because if I’m not enjoying it, I won’t stick with it.
Right off, I knew going to a public gym for fitness class was out. I used to do that when I was fit and confident but now I hate my body image so certainly don’t want to be bouncing around in front of others. I have visions of the days when it seemed no matter what I wore, at some point in my workout, I ended up getting a gym wedgie and how do you discretely deal with that?
No worries, though. I’ve come up with a list of exercises I enjoy and can easily fit into my lifestyle.

Hiking/Walking: Hiking has always been a favourite pastime for my family and there are numerous nature trails around here but I don’t go alone because of our amazing wildlife population (bears, cougars, wolves) so if there is nobody to go with then it might just mean walking to work or doing laps on the high school track.

Swimming/Aquafit I enjoy working out in the water so swimming lengths and or taking in an aquatic exercise class is a fun and refreshing way for me to get moving.

Home Gym: Living on the west coast, we don’t get much for snow, but see a fair bit of rain in the winter so I’ve set up a section in my home with an elliptical, exercise ball, yoga mat, and dumbbells. But, you don’t need a special room to create an exercise space and you don’t need a bunch of costly equipment. There’s a plethora of websites with excellent, simple floor exercises and yoga stretches that work every part of your body.
Crank up the tunes and get moving. I've no excuses now! I'm gonna' kick this weight loss thing in the .... :)
